Our commitment: We built Unscroll to help you have a healthier relationship with social media—not to profit from your data. We don't sell your information, we don't use invasive tracking, and we only collect what's necessary to make the app work for you.
What we don't do with your data
- We don't track which websites you visit. Your browsing within Unscroll stays private.
- We don't see your Screen Time data. It is only displayed to you.
- We can't identify which apps you're monitoring. Apple's Screen Time API only provides unidentifiable app tokens to protect your privacy.
- We don't sell your data to third parties. We're not in the data-selling business.
- We don't use your data for advertising. No ads, no tracking pixels, no behavioral profiling.
What else you should know
1. We respect your privacy
(a) Unscroll respects your right to privacy and is committed to safeguarding the privacy of our customers and website visitors. This policy sets out how we collect and treat your personal information.
(b) We comply with applicable data protection laws, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for EU users and relevant US state privacy laws including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
(c) "Personal information" is information we hold which is identifiable as being about you. This includes information such as your name, email address, identification number, or any other type of information that can reasonably identify an individual, either directly or indirectly.
2. What personal information is collected
(a) Unscroll will, from time to time, receive and store personal information you submit to our website, our app, provided to us directly or given to us in other forms.
(b) Unscroll does not require account creation. We assign your device a unique identifier to enable app functionality.
(c) We may collect additional information at other times, including when you provide feedback, change your content or email preference, respond to surveys, or communicate with our customer support.
(d) Additionally, we may also collect any other information you provide while interacting with us.
(e) As required by Apple's App Store policies, we request only the minimum permissions necessary for Unscroll to function, including access to Screen Time data (which remains on your device) and optional notification permissions for reminders you choose to enable.
(f) In compliance with Apple's App Store requirements, we provide transparency about our data collection practices in our App Privacy label on the App Store, which you can review before downloading.
2A. Screen Time and Usage Data
(a) Unscroll uses Apple's Screen Time API to monitor your usage of apps you select. Due to Apple's privacy protections, we receive only limited data from the Screen Time API.
(b) We cannot see which specific apps you've selected to monitor—we only receive unidentifiable app tokens. We collect approximate usage data (such as when apps are opened and approximate session durations) which is transmitted to our servers to enable core app functionality, including live activities and usage tracking.
(c) This data is linked to a unique device identifier, not to your personal identity (such as your name or email).
(d) We do not and cannot collect the specific content you view, websites you visit, or any personal information from within the apps you use.
(e) Your browsing activity within Unscroll's in-app browser is not tracked, logged, or stored by us.
(f) We may collect additional aggregated, anonymized usage statistics (such as how often Unscroll features are used) to improve the app.
2B. In-App Browser
(a) When you browse social media through Unscroll's in-app browser, we do not track, log, or store the websites you visit or your browsing activity.
(b) The websites you visit may collect their own data according to their privacy policies. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the privacy practices of these third-party sites.
(c) Standard browser data (such as cookies) may be stored locally on your device to maintain your logged-in sessions, but this data is not accessible to us.
2C. Live Activities
(a) Unscroll uses iOS Live Activities to display your real-time scrolling duration while you're using selected apps. This data is processed locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.
(b) Live Activities appear on your lock screen and Dynamic Island during active scroll sessions. This information is visible only to you and anyone who can see your device screen.
(c) We store session data (app name, start time, duration) to provide you with historical usage insights and to enable the live activity functionality to work across app states.
3. How we collect your personal information
(a) Unscroll collects personal information from you in a variety of ways, including when you interact with us electronically or in person, when you access our website, and when we engage in business activities with you. We may receive personal information from third parties. If we do, we will protect it as set out in this Privacy Policy.
(b) By providing us with personal information, you consent to the supply of that information subject to the terms of this Privacy Policy.
4. How we use your personal information
(a) Unscroll may use personal information collected from you to provide you with information about our products or services. We may also make you aware of new and additional products, services and opportunities available to you.
(b) Unscroll will use personal information only for the purposes that you consent to. This may include to: (i) provide you with products and services during the usual course of our business activities; (ii) administer our business activities; (iii) manage, research and develop our products and services; (iv) provide you with information about our products and services; (v) communicate with you by a variety of measures including, but not limited to, by telephone, email, sms or mail; and (vi) investigate any complaints.
If you withhold your personal information, it may not be possible for us to provide you with our products and services or for you to fully access our website.
(c) Specifically for Unscroll, we collect and use data to:
- Monitor approximate app usage patterns (via anonymized app tokens and session durations) linked to your device identifier
- Enable live activities and real-time usage notifications
- Sync your app settings and usage data across your devices using your device identifier
- Analyze aggregated, anonymized usage patterns to improve app features
- Provide customer support when you contact us (if you provide your email)
(d) Due to Apple's Screen Time API privacy protections, we cannot identify which specific apps you're monitoring—only that you're using apps you've selected, and for approximately how long.
(e) We do not link your usage data to personally identifiable information such as your name or email address. Your data is associated with a device identifier only.
(f) We do not use your data for advertising purposes, and we do not sell your data to third parties.
(g) We do not sell your personal data. We have never sold user data and we never will. This is a core principle of how we built Unscroll.
(h) We may disclose your personal information to comply with a legal requirement, such as a law, regulation, court order, subpoena, warrant, legal proceedings or in response to a law enforcement agency request.
(i) If there is a change of control in our business or a sale or transfer of business assets, we reserve the right to transfer to the extent permissible at law our user databases, together with any personal information and non-personal information contained in those databases.
5. Disclosure of your personal information
(a) Unscroll may disclose your personal information to any of our employees, officers, insurers, professional advisers, agents, suppliers or subcontractors insofar as reasonably necessary for the purposes set out in this privacy policy.
